Minglers Thunder justified favouritism in the final of the Betfred Steel City Cup over 500 metres at Sheffield on Wednesday.

Jimmy Wright’s runner made a flying start from trap one and was soon clear of the outsider Crewe Bay Ace.

The son of Archaton Pine ran his rivals ragged and he eventually came home just over four lengths clear of Satin Mark in 28.67sec

Wright said afterwards: “The dog came over originally for the Sunderland Classic but took a while to settle in.

“He is now in top form and that was his fourth win in the last five races.”

“He needed to get an early lead and once he trapped out I knew he would take all the beating.

“We’ll look at running him at our home track Newcastle next in the All England Cup and the Laurels later in the year.”

 

Quick Impact was a shock 20-1 winner of the Betfred Double Delight Standard over 500 metres at 7.11

Julie Bateson’s Royal Impact dog was soon clear and went on to Farran Sexton by three quarters of a length in 28.84sec.

Russanda Brax was the first winning Sky favourite when landing the Betfred Be Part of the Action British Bred Stakes over 500 metres.

Elaine Parker’s 6-4 chance led around the opening turn and went on to beat Golden Billy by a length and three quarters in 28.93sec.

Parker was also on the mark with Biddys Fire (evens) in the Betfred Scoop6Soccer Bitches when capitalising from a great draw to lead all the way and beat Produce Stakes winner Fabulous Expert by just over three lengths in 28.73sec.

Assistant trainer Shaun Parker said: “Both love the track and win lots of races around here.”

Barrie Draper had a 1-2 in the Betfred Goals Galore Stayers Stakes over 660 metres.

Dinzeo, recently transferred from the retiring Harry Crapper passed the pace-maker Geelo Midnight off the last turn but was picked up by kennelmate Droopys Gonza (7-4) , who scored by three quarters of a length in 39.14sec.

Worsboro Spectre was the third winning favourite from five Sky races in the Betfred Hat Trick Heaven Sprint over 280 metres.

Barrie Draper’s runner squeezed his way up the inside at the opening turn and went on to beat Klockwork Khaos by a length in 16.14sec.

Draper said afterwards: “He was brave around the first bend and did it well in the end. The dog came from Harry Crapper in great shape, like Dinzeo, and hopefully can win plenty of races.”

Swift Curie was an impressive winner of the Betfred TV Bitches stakes over 500 metres.

Russ Warren’s runner railed into the lead off the second turn and went on to beat Satin Tess by almost six lengths in 28.84sec.

Glenpadden Rock was a trap to line winner of the high-class Betfred Mobile Standard over 500 metres.

Barrie Draper’s 5-4 favourite was soon clear of Light Foot Mata and went on to beat that rival by two and a half lengths in 28.79sec.
