“This has to be the best Champions Stakes Final of at least the last decade”
Mark Wallis, who has already won the competition twice, will be doubly represented in what he describes as “bar the Derby final, the race of the year to date.” Unusually, the top two in the betting in each of the three semi finals all qualified.
Wallis said: “I thought both of June Harvey’s pair look exceptional greyhounds, Shotgun Bullet is already a Cat One winner and Kanturk Bullet ran exceptionally well to qualify.
“As far as ours are concerned, Bombers Bullet is contesting his fourth consecutive Category One final, and Saleen Ash is exceeding all expectations. He has already won the he is a Derby semi finalist too don’t forget.
“Looking at the draw, ideally I prefer traps two or three for a railer in the Romford 575s, though I can’t see Bombers being any better than fourth at the first bend anyway, so it won’t make a lot of difference to him. With so much early pace, there will probably be a chance for a good finisher though.
“Saleen Ash, on the other hand, has the ability to ping away from trap six and is in the form of his life.”
