Kim Taylor’s Savana Terry (Scloari Me Daddy-Mrs De, Jun 13) set the standard in the first round of the KAB Maiden Derby at Henlow. The white and blue, who had qualified in 27.29, led from trap to line to beat Swift Edward by eight lengths in 27.33.
Hayley Keightley landed a double including the night’s next quickest winner Solemn Vow (Droopys Scolari-Mr Margaret, Jul 13). The unraced black, who had 14 trials on her card, including a 28.61 for Wimbledon’s 480 metres, led off the second bend before recording 27.67.
Half the six heats were won by odds-on chances with Roxholme Bob producing perhaps the gutsiest run to win from the back of the field. Hayley Keightley’s dog, who had broken the 3.70 sectional mark in trials, missed the kick completely and only took the lead off the last bend to win in 28.09.
