The excitement of a new stadium seems to be drawing racegoers to Swindon as the track attracted a record open race entry for their £300 open race card on Wednesday.
Director of racing Bill Glass said: “To get more than 90 entries for the 10 races was amazing and we had a good crowd which was very focused on the racing. All the winning owners were present for the presentations for example – unusual for a meeting with that many opens.”
The 10 race card included opens over four different distances and winners from as far and wide as Monmore, Romford and Yarmouth.
Although ‘standing dishes’ Jet Stream Bound and Swift Europe were both turned over, locals would have relished the victory of the track’s Track Championship star Moreton Melody who won for the sixth time in 11 races for John Spracklen.
