An A9 race which took place at Swindon greyhound stadium on Friday 22nd September drew much attention with the Grant Gillett trained Ballygibba Sea apparently winning by 8 lengths in a time of 2888 (+20). A huge improvement from an April 2019 bitch whose last victory came early in February and since beaten at big odds in similar A9 and handicap affairs. After a short investigation it was revealed that the greyhound who actually performed in the race was the A4 runner Strideaway Honey trained by Jim Little. The official result of the race has now been amended to show Strideaway Honey as the race winner.
A short statement from the GBGB has now stated the following “On the evidence collated and received by the GBGB relating to the race at Swindon Stadium, two professional greyhound trainers have been temporarily warned off pending further investigation”.
It is understood that bookmakers have reported a number of small stake bets were placed upon the winner of the race.
