Last week reported that Eddie Lesley had planned a meeting to invite interest parties to Swaffham on Saturday morning to gauge the feeling and support for the return of a schooling/independent greyhound track.
So how did it go?
Lesley said: “About 20 people attended. I outlined my vision (to re-open for schooling and “independent of GBGB” racing); then scheduling the tasks required to get the track up and running, which, inter-alia, include installation of starting traps and hare rail, running rail, upgrading of kennel doors, relocation of judges box and new vet’s room. I added that I was looking for some help with the workload,to speed things up.
“The view from the floor was that once people saw the place ready for schooling trials, that the support ,to race, would materialise, with more than enough dogs to fill cards,on a regular basis. However, today, “greyhound man” is sceptical and wants more tangible evidence. To date money has been expended on re-surfacing (still work in progress), a new watering system, inside running rail, starting traps, photo finish camera and floodlighting. Future outlay is not insignificant.
“Sharon Ward, who organised the meeting and is the person through whom the majority are communicating,is of the opinion that work on the track must continue in order to stimulate interest and to negate the lethargy. To demonstate your support, please contact Sharon on 07412 787570,or email: [email protected].”
