Sunderland are planning to announce that their Classic – traditionally the second richest event in the calendar – is expected to go ahead in July.
There have been huge doubts that the entire festival would take place following the completion of the sponsorship deal with William Hill.
Track spokesman Ben Stores said: “I am not able to name the sponsor at this stage but hopefully we will be able to announce further details later this week. Unfortunately, it looks very unlikely that the Grand Prix will take place.”
