There are times when a tipping challenge is a thriller. And there are times when nobody wants to win. There is extra time, a penalty shoot-out and everyone keeps missing. HOVE’s Cahill v Cahill v Windup Merchant was one of those events. Seamus fell at the first. Teresa stopped chasing by the sixth. ‘Golden Voice’ Darrell Williamson left it until the last race of the night before finally getting one across the line. £50 on 6-5 winner Beechgrove Bell for a £10 profit on the night. The collective sigh of relief could be heard from the Dutch coast.
It was a difficult situation at SHEFFIELD where the king is under threat. After a poor Tuesday, the smart money said that Carl ‘Mr Consistency’ Perry would re-establish his crown. Things started well enough with £30 on 6-4 chance – but he couldn’t back it up, for a £25 loss on the night. (It is worth mentioning that there were two winning Geelos on the night, but neither was tipped!!)
Darren Driver went for two, had one winner, but the ‘wrong one’ won – carrying just the £40 at 8-11. Net loss £30.91. Which just left the other newbie, Glynn Hobbs. Two even money bets, two winners (one being Geelo Love!) for a £100 profit on the night.
Keep looking over your shoulder Carl!
CENTRAL PARK
There will be a series of spectacular events this evening to mark a birthday late last week. Entertainer Rolf Harris will be in the paddock, on day release from Maidstone Prison, to sing Happy Birthday to the special guest. Promoter Roger Cearns will be on the winning line to make a formal presentation of a framed bus pass. And finally, just before the Silver Salver final, there will be a fly past from a plane pulling a 150 foot banner with the words ‘Happy 60th Rab – its no a secret anymore – love Jimmy and Angela’.
