Yorkshire and Coe

You have to go back six and a half years for the last time that a greyhound broke the 29.00 barrier for the 483m trip at Doncaster. (28.93 Lightfoot King – March 2018). So fitting that it happened in the final of the 2024 Yorkshire Derby. The winner was the orange jacketed Greenwell Coe . . .

Following the race, the thoughts of trainer Tom Heilbron

The meeting also featured the final of the BGBF British Bred St.Leger where Fabulous Dyna successfully defended the title she won a year ago. The Laurence Tuffin trained brindle beat the similarly prefixed Fabulous Tempo by just under four lengths in 41.49 for the 661m.

From Scottish bred Coe, to Leicestershire bred Fabulous Tempo, there was also a notable run from the Yorkshire bred Acomb Felix who set a new 450m track record of 27.13.

On a track that was clearly running particularly fast, Breton Molly clocked the third quickest 661m time ever, 41.01, just two spots outside the clock jointly held by Frisby Figo and Black Pear.

** Liz Mort, Keeper of the Greyhound Stud Book, was taken to hospital after falling ill during the meeting. Our thoughts are with her and her loved ones.

There was only spot between the two semi final winners of the Irish Laurels with Graham Holland’s Romeo Taylor holding the advantage over Pat Norris’ Crafty Shivoo. They are drawn blue and black respectively in next week’s Curraheen Park decider.

King Memphis (T1) became the fastest hound over the new Central Park 491m trip with a narrow win in a Kent Derby trialstake on Saturday night. The Liz McNair runner clocked 28.73.
