Clue and Carlo prep complete

On Saturday, final preparations were put into place for the Coral Sussex Cup and Premier Greyhound Racing Regency which get underway this coming weekend.

Greyhound of the Year Droopys Clue produced another stunning performance to suggest that following a wrist injury, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

The quality of his 29.75 run for the 515m course can only really be judged by comparison with some of the other winners who clocked 30.33, 30.37, 30.61 and 30.62, albeit the track conditions has slowed somewhat by the latter stages.

Trainer Seamus Cahill said: “He has come off in good order and we’ve decided to keep him to four bends and go for the Sussex Cup. Maybe later in the year we will have another look and think about further. But while he is coming away as well as he is, it will be middle distance races for the immediate future.”

Quickest of the winners for the £20K PGR sponsored event was Jason Heath’s Haka Carlo in 42.04 for the 695m trip. However, given it was her first look at the track, the half length defeat for Kim Billingham’s Magical Luna was an exceptional run.

Queen Georgia who finished between Carlo and Luna when they met on the Derby undercard was just a head slower when winning her trialstake. Full results

Droopys Pivotel and Candolim Monsoon bother impressed in their pre-race trials earlier in the evening.

Aero attack on Pall Mall imminent

It takes a special hound to clock 26.52 on a first look at Oxford, but Aero Sacundai has already proved that he belongs in that category.

This is what Richie Taberner’s hound did on his maiden visit to Cowley on Saturday night.

To put the run into some perspective, the track record the track record is held by Union Rebel in 26.44. He trialled before the meeting in 26.82. Meeting results.

Unfortunately there will be no title defence for Links Maverick. The 2023 Pall Mall champ is on the injured list with the Select Stakes and East Anglian Derby his long term targets.
