Suffolk Downs should finally add a staying distance to the 388m standard that has been the only option since the track re-opened.

The track are expecting to get GBGB clearance for their new 548m trip on Monday of next week and will hold their first trials either on the Tuesday or Thursday. The boxes were originally at Henlow but have been refurbished and tested. The new staying distance is three metres longer than its ‘Mildenhall’ equivalent.

The track lost meetings due to frost at the end of last year but the time was spent on upgrades to the paddock which has also been repainted.

Open racing is expected to return to West Row later in the year.
