While the William Hill Puppy competition attracted a field of largely unknown youngsters, the exception being Puppy Derby runner-up, Droopys Heron, the same sponsor’s Great North Run attracted what can only be described as a ‘Cat 1’ field for the 18 runner event which gets underway on Thursday.
It includes recent Doncaster Leger winner Roxholme Poppy, her great rival, the Kent St.Leger winner Slippy Maggie, Three Steps winner Swift Hansel and a string of high quality stayers.
