Veteran Blackstone Marco (Head Bound-Blackstone Mini, Dec 11) rolled back the years to produce a flying run in the Betfred Mobile Standard Final over 500m at Nottingham on Monday night.
Heather Dimmock’s white and black went to traps as the 7-4f in the 84th race of his career and made all from a determined Tadys Robin who just failed by a short head. The £500 winner clocked a career best over course and distance of 29.49 – the fastest time of the year.
The £400 480m Maiden Trophy Final was won in fine style by former Perry Barr A4 grader Fearsome Phantom (Westmead Hawk-Hesley Hawaii, May 14). The John Marriott bred black lacked the early pace to go with his rivals, primarily the Crayford raider Dranoel (T1 5-1). But showing great track craft in the latter stages, Pat Rosney’s blue jacketed 5-2 chance eased to the front on the run-in for a length and a quarter victory in 28.75.
