The Betfred Gymcrack Championship stayed in the north when Elaine Parker’s Stay Loose landed the Category One final at Kinsley over 462 metres.

Owned by Stephen Laybourn, who retired his Hather George on the night after he contested the previous race, the Stayers final, he looks to have a ready-made replacement in Stay Loose (5-1), who made just about all the running to hold Swift Cater by a length in 27.50sec.

The favourite Southfield Jock, who needed to lead to win, challenged the winner down the back straight but by the last turn has run his race and it was the staying on Swift Carter, who came through to snatch second.

Parker said afterwards: “I knew when the lids went up he was going to win as he stays so well.

“He’s very genuine and also experienced and really wants to win.

“He’s had problems with a bad tooth and a sore shoulder but he’s coming right and we’ve not got to the bottom of him.

Laybourn said: “I hope he runs as long and as well as George. I thought the event may come too soon for him but he’s run brilliantly.”

Marmalady was a fortunate winner of the opening Betfred Mobile Bitches race at 7.11.

Graigues Diva, the favourite, was half a length in front at the turn but was barged out of the way by Mollys Diamond on the inside, which left David Mullin’s Marmalady clear on the outside to eventually beat the favourite by five lengths in 27.52sec.

Mullins said afterwards: “We thought that she was a genuine Oaks contender last year and she did well to win here on her first look at the track.”

Droopys Vodka got favourite backers off the mark in the Betfred Treble odds on Lucky 15’sPuppy race at 7.26.

Jimmy Wright’s pup pulled clear from the opening turn to come home almost seven lengths in front of Outdoor Rumble in 27.18sec.

Wright said afterwards: “We were gutted when he was knocked out of the Gymcrack but he showed his class tonight.

“He didn’t quite stay 480 metres at Newcastle initially but is staying better now and to do 27.18sec, a length off the record here, was special. The sky is the limit.

“We’ll probably take him back to Newcastle now for the Pinpoint Festival.”

Lowgate Jasper landed the Betfred Exclusive Greyhound Pushes Stayers Stakes over 650 metres.

Jim Hayton’s runner led from the opening turn to hold the late challenge of Airmount Paco by half a length in 39.90sec.

Hayton said afterwards: “The dog has been winning well at Sheffield and needed to trap to win tonight and lasted out well. We’ll take him to Newcastle for the Pinpoint Festival next.”

Satin Mark was a 9-2 winner of the Betfred Casino Standard over 462 metres.

Trever Jameson’s runner missed the first bend trouble and took the lead off Droopys Alessio at the third turn to score by almost four lengths in 27.58ec.

The trainer said: “He’s a great bend runner and has run Pelaw well so we thought he’d handle this. He was just five days too old for the Gymcrack, otherwise he would have gone for that.”

King Kane was an easy winner of the Betfred Proud Sponsors of Kinsley Stadium Marathon over 844 metres.

Diane Henry’s runner led on the second lap and came home well clear of Fearsome Liberty in 52.44sec, which set a new track record.

Henry said afterwards: “We’ve kept him fit at home and this year we will target mainly marathons and try and defend his TV Trophy, which is at Towcester this year.”

Kildallon Tweed was a trap to line winner of the Betfred.com Sprint over 268 metres.

The Premier Fantasy dog came home just over a length clear of Tornaroy Thrill in 16.09sec.

Winning trainer Phil Barlow said afterwards: “He’s a good dog and we’ve battled to get him back right after a lay-off through the winter as he’s been coming off sore in his races and trials.

“However in the heats he came off fine afterwards and we quietly fancied him and he ran a blinder.”

Tootootoosie made just about all the running in the Betfred 1350 Shops Stayers Final over 650 metres.

The Doncaster bitch saw off every challenge and in the end was just a neck too good for Farley Rio in 40.45sec.

Malcom Hutchins, the winning owner: “We got the bitch off P. J. Fahy in Ireland and named this bitch after an Al Jolson song.

“She ran well in the heats and ran really well in the end.”

Hather George, who finished down the field, was retired after the race.
