So after weeks of speculation of who would be entered for the Star Sports Bookmakers / TRC English Greyhound Derby and whether or not the magical number of 192 would be reached the final entry list is now here. The 192 was reached exactly and whilst the Irish challenge is less in trainer number than previously there is still an outstanding amount of quality heading across the Irish sea hoping to lay claim to the most sought after trophy in the sport.
Nathan Corden Derby consultant at Towcester racecourse said on the entry “Delighted to get to the 192 figure and nice to see a good quality Irish contingent coming over. It’s also good to see a new face in Jack Kennelly coming over with a good entry. It promises to be a very competitive competition once again”.
Kim Samzone executive assistant at sponsor Star Sports Bookmakers said “We’re pleased with the entry list and particularly delighted to see a good entry from across the Irish sea. It promises to be yet another quality Derby and we’re all really looking forward to the next few weeks”.
Carly Philpott the well respected and successful ex trainer is delighted to have been asked to carry out the role of on track interviewer and all round expert during this years Derby. Carly said “It’s always a pleasure to work in a sport I very much love and to be asked to carry out the pre and post race interviews on behalf of Star Sports is a privilege. The entry is a quality one and I now can’t wait for the event to get underway and to have plenty of chat with all the owners and trainers from both sides of the Irish sea”.
Kim also confirmed that she is delighted to have been asked to carry out the draw for the first round which will take place at Towcester racecourse this coming Friday 19th May 2023 at approximately 1230pm. The draw will be staged in the presence of Derby consultant Nathan Corden alongside Towcester racing office representative(s) and a GBGB licensed official.
