There will be plenty of short priced favourites on the BAGS card at Sheffield tonight (Tuesday) with all the country’s top sprinters line up in the heats of the Bresmed Northern Sprint over 280 metres.
The event has been upgraded to Category One status and has attracted a stellar line-up including last year’s Sprinter of the Year Scolari Sound, leading Northern runner Walshes Hill and also leading two-benders Ballybee Brewery and Target Harris.
Carl Perry’s Geelo Jaguar is given the vote to land the opening heat.
The local runner had won three on the bounce before narrowly beaten on the big Sky screened Three Steps To Victory undercard by Baallybee Brewery.
The aforementioned Ballybee Brewery, trained by Liz McNair, is fancied to see off the talented Target Harris, who was close to the track record in a recent trial, in the second eliminator.
He is seen winning on the Arc undercard last month from trap five.
Romeo Van Dutch, who was second in a recent Wimbledon final, gets a narrow vote to land the competitive third qualifier.
David Pruhs trained runners look set to dominate in the fourth qualifier. Scolari Sound, the National Sprint winner is fancied to beat Laughing Gravy, who is usually be better suited over a short four bend trip.
Richard Devenish’s Mac Foiche, winner of a Wimbledon sprint final last month, can carry the striped jacket to victory in the fifth eliminator.
Jimmy Wright’s prolific winning Walshes Hill can get first run on Newcastle track-mate Bramble Bruno in the last eliminator.
