From Sunday onwards, the owners of all runners contesting open races at Towcester, will be invited, along with a guest, to a free buffet served in the racecourse’s executive boxes.
Promoter Kevin Boothby said: “The idea came about following an interview with Billy Boyle on the Star website. As an owner myself, I loved the idea of owners meeting up in such a nice social setting for a bit of banter and of course, they get the best view in the house.”
To claim this offer, owners are invited to email [email protected] to book their places. Please note deadline is 10am for every Sunday.
Boothby also confirmed that he is considering shifting some of the track’s open races to a Saturday evening.
He said: “We can’t do them all because some of the sponsors will want RPGTV coverage. But I am aware that a lot of the trainers would prefer to see the top dogs run on a Saturday night. I do too, it is what racing should be about.
“So at this stage we may start off by doing some additional Saturday night opens and see how it develops. We are getting great crowds which is creating a fabulous atmosphere.
Racing Manager Andy Lisemore is hoping that the recent bout of kennel sickness has peaked following a mass outbreak.
He said: “We had at least ten kennels badly hit, in some cases having to withdraw all their dogs. In total, we must have had between 80-100 dogs sidelined. Although we have had more cases in today, the numbers seem to be falling. Thankfully the opens always fill which has been a blessing.
“Ironically, the two kennels on-site, Gray and Tuffin, seem to have largely missed the outbreak.”
