Belle Vue has announced the dates for the Northern Flat Championship, which is being sponsored again by the local owners’ forum.

The Category Three competition will start with three heats over 470 metres on Saturday, August 22 and the £1,000-to-the-winner final will the highlight of a racecard be a week later that will feature a sprint open, two over the standard trip, one of which will be restricted to pups, and one over 590 metres.

 

Droopys Alessio crowned a great night for Jimmy Wright’s team at Newcastle on Saturday night when the son of Broadstrand Lad landed the Gain Feeds Race of the Week in 28.46 for the 480 metres, second fastest of the year.

That completed a five-timer for the kennel, which had scored earlier with Glenside Chops (5-2), Kilquarry Jax (2-1), Amazes Me (3-1) and Glenside Nipper (6-4).

 

Owner Nic Brereton and trainer Carl Perry did not enjoy the best of luck in the BresMed Northern Sprint, sponsored by Brereton, but there was good reason for optimism within the Geelo Racing team at Sheffield on Friday.

They introduced Geelo Jaguar, a January 2014 son of Cashen Legend and Boher Lass, to the strength at Sheffield and the dog showed real promise as he broke well and led throughout to take a D1 comfortably in 16.31 for the 280 metres.

 

Stuart Carrington’s kennel was in irrepressible form at Kinsley on Friday night where the Goole-based trainer sent out five winners. The spree started with Bitusa Bee taking the opening contest at 3-1 and then further successes followed with Kincora Ace 7-2, Escobar 3-1, Southern Peace 5-4 and Too Dear 11-4.
