There were three more open sprints on Sheffield’s Tuesday card ahead of the start of next week’s BresMed Northern Sprint. Gerry Ballentine’s Tin Soldier was quickest in 16.10 for the 280 metres. Elaine Parker’s Methley Bridge was next best in 16.15, while Rapid River was a couple of pips slower. BresMed is also backing a 660-metre competition which starts on July 28 and Droopys Cortez looks in the frame for that after the Barrie Draper-trained dog confirmed he was getting back to his best by completing a hat-trick with a three-length defeat of Trumpers Mofara in 38.99.
Kilkenny Treve set a new sectional record at Perry Barr on Friday when successful in the Love The Dogs Standard over 480 metres. The son of Ballymac Maeve, owned by Charlie Slimper and trained by Gerry Ballentine, clocked a flying 3.40sec, eclipsing the 3.42 set by Lynn Cook’s enigmatic speedster Free Sport in March 2008. He went on to hold Terminal Three by a neck in 28.27sec (+10).
