Greyhound Trader were finally able to host what was their first sale since the Doncaster Sales in April and certainly provided the people with some interesting types to purchase.
Towcester was the third re-scheduled sale due to matters out of Greyhound Trader’s hands and this perhaps contributed to a quieter sales day than those more recently (just look back at the Pre-Derby Sales at Towcester).
However, whilst maybe not as many of the dogs were sold (60%), there was still a number of good prices made with the average price ending up at £1,661.
Fastest greyhound of the day was Gizmo Smasher, who stopped the clock in 29.84 for the 500m trip. An Aug’20 son of Ballymac Bolger and Beaming Smasher, he was very impressive on the day and clearly caught the eyes of bidders as he made £3300.
Top lot on the day was Silverspring Lea who sold for £5900. A daughter of Pestana and Irish Puppy Oaks winner Cracked Lady, the Mar’21 bitch produced a 30.23 run on the day and shaped very much as a staying type. She will be staying at the kennels in Towcester under the hands of Frank Gray with a number of upcoming Puppy competitions firmly in sight.
Her litter sister Silverspring Ria was another to make good money fetching £5100 after her 30.54 run despite being badly baulked at the first bend. She has joined John Mullins and again must be set on a similar route to her sister.
Swanley Smasher (full-sister to Gizmo Smasher) made £5100, with it noted to be plenty of interest from online bidders on the day. She trialed in a fast 29.85 and looks set straight away for a career in the Open racing scene. Again bought by Frank Gray, she was perhaps also purchased with an eye on breeding in the future as he looks to contribute to the British bred population.
Other notable sales were Effernogue Faye, who sold for £4200 and heads to Swindon to start her racing career, and also Procul Harum, a Lenson Bocko x Riverside Honey bitch who was sold to Towcester supremo Kevin Boothby you’d imagine with an eye on being a potential stayer in time.
3 greyhounds sold for over £5000, which looking at recent Irish and UK sales is a great achievement, and overall it resulted in a turnover of £44,850 on the day for the 27 greyhounds sold.
Greyhound Trader’s next sale will be an Online Auction running from this coming Friday 29th July through to Sunday 31st July.
