A double from Elaine Parker and a winner from Carl Perry enabled Sheffield to come through the home tie in their BAGS Track Championship with a lead, but with Nottingham worryingly close in second position.
Perry’s Geelo Brenny got the Yorkshiremen off to a flying start and Parker weighed in with victories from Russanda Ronda and Adamant Apolo and finished with a total of 62 points.
However, Paul White’s Wajas Trump and Alec Stone’s Alma Radar boosted Nottingham’s total nicely to finish second with 43, ahead of Towcester on 27, with Peterborough and Yarmouth bracketed on 18.
The teams in this group meet up again on Monday October 12 when Peterborough will have home advantage.
