“Welcome to the bright lights of Sheffield” will be the new slogan at Owlerton from next month writes John Forbes.
The racecourse is installing a new track lighting system, with work due to commence on Tuesday, August 11 and the completion date set for Friday September 4, although managing director John Gilburn is hopeful that the time can be shaved a little to allow the lights to be used for the final of the Steel City Cup on Wednesday, September 2.
He says: “The system is being installed by ab American company called Musco, who have renewed the floodlighting at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and are a very experience firm. It will cost £94,000 and the racecourse is covering the full amount as there is no help available from the BGRF at present.”
