Rab McNair reports that the operation on youngster King Sheeran went without a hitch following the broken hock sustained at Nottingham on Monday.
He said: “It was perfect. The vet put two pins in it and he is actually walking around on it today. There will be no rush to bring him back, we’ll probably give it six months.”
There was also good news on litter brother King Sinatra who broke a metatarsal when being schooled in June.
Rab said: “He did 16.56 (calc) today for the sprint which was a brilliant run for his first trial back.”
(The fastest time of the day was the calculated 16.29 by the track’s top sprinter Lenson Cobra.)
McNair also gave first four bend trials to four members of the May ’17 litter by Eden The Kid out of Shaws Dilemma (dam of King Kane, King Alley, King Eden and Queen Asia). Quickest of the quartet was Queen Cher in a calculated 29.63 for the 480m.
With King Elvis likely to start favourite for Sunday’s Hawk Henlow Derby Final, the Kent based assistant trainer is still uncertain what to do with kennelmate and Greyhound of the Year contender King Turbo.
He said: “The two main options are the British bred Derby at Sheffield or the Olympic at Hove. Whatever the decision, I am going to have to get a run into him pretty quick. He is so fresh at home he is going to kill himself. He is doing my head in.”
