Towcester’s £20,000 ECC Timber Puppy Derby has drawn a field befitting the prize money and Derby venue for the most exciting new juvenile event in decades.
OTT? Look at the formlines for heat eight. Unraced Roxholme Poppy – 29.39 over course and distance, up against Affleck Bolt – 29.47 over course and distance, up against the fastest dog of any age over the track’s 480m course this year, Jovial Monk.
Or Sporting Dave (28.51 Central Park) – or the exciting new Wallis arrival Kilcree Diamond (28.87 cal Youghal), Elaine Parker’s British bred brothers Russanda Ripley (28.57 500 Sheffield), and the once errant Lightfoot King? Kevin Hutton has a strong team including Puppy Cup finalist Hedford Kev and the exciting Magical Bale. Already proven are trialstake winners Queen Borneo and Triple Gee.
Sadly there are only two Irish entries . . . though they are trained by the brilliant Northern Irish handler of track and field, Brendan Matthews.
The 48 runner event gets underway on Saturday and concludes with the £20,000 final on Wednesday November 15.
