Towcester track record holder Clona Duke showed why he might have been just as happy had the English Derby remained at Nottingham with an impressive win in the Jenningsbet Select Stakes.
Graham Holland’s early paced railer went out of the Irish Derby in the third round but was rewarded for his journey over the water with another fine front running display.
At the opposite end of the scale was another sublime perforamance from the Darling of the Tracks, Space Jet. The style of her racing almost teases punters into believing that ‘tonight isn’t her night’ before finding another two or three gears in the last third of a race. Racegoers everywhere will be hoping that nature takes its time and they are not to be denied a final opportunity of seeing their favourite in next month’s Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger.
The card also featured a double for Jimmy Fenwick, a win for the dual Irish classic winner Bobsleigh Dream and a statement of intent from Islandbridge Open Sprint winner Hopes Knight whose 17.57 was the third quickest run over the 305m course this year.
