Druidswitchcraft, who as a July ’08 whelp is possibly the oldest runner in training (unless you know better), is due to trial back at Swindon next week.
The daughter of Tyrur Ted and Druids Judicial spent most of her career with Ron Dix but is now with Bristol based Paul Maynard.
He said: “I used to work with Ron and Witch isn’t that unusual, we had First Day who was just under eight when he retired.”
Generally, dogs that race to a great age tend to be either ungenuine or lucky with injury, Witch was neither according to Maynard.
He said: “Not at all. I know some of the old dogs tend to look after themselves but Witch is totally genuine and loves her racing. She has had her fair share of injuries too, including a gracilis, but she always comes back.
“I don’t how she will go on Tuesday, we are trialling her back ‘in between season’. She will need to do 31.00 but if she doesn’t get there we’ll give her another few weeks off and bring her back at about eleven weeks. She only ever 29.40 class at her best.
“She has a bit of greyhound around her muzzle but has a beautiful shiny coat and looks in great order.”
Witch’s career tally stands at 203 races
