Second National Greyhound Week Off To A Flying Start
~ GBGB takes National Greyhound Week roadshow to licensed stadia across the country~
~Stadia offering free admission and family-friendly activities throughout the week~
Today the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s second annual National Greyhound Week (NGW) begins, kicking off a week of themed race meetings and special offers at licensed stadia across the country.
NGW 2024 will see greyhound stadia celebrating the canine athletes and families at the heart of the sport. With many racecourses offering free entry and special events for families and children, the week provides an excellent opportunity for tracks to attract both new and returning audiences of all ages. As a prelude to the NGW celebrations, Valley Stadium in Ystrad Mynach yesterday held a Family Fun Day, which pulled in an excellent crowd and offered a preview of the activities which are on offer throughout the week.
GBGB will once again be taking its NGW roadshow to licensed stadia up and down the country, beginning at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium this evening, and will be highlighting some of the many dedicated families involved in the sport on social media.
New this year, GBGB is also running a national NGW Trap Challenge. Individuals must be over 18 to enter and can do so at their local track. The competition, which closes on Sunday 1st September, features a table for four in the restaurant at a licensed track of their choice for the winner.
Scott Harvey, Racing Operations Executive at GBGB, said: “National Greyhound Week returns for a second year with stadia across the country getting involved. Following the popularity of last year’s event, it’s fantastic to see so many tracks coming together again to celebrate racing, the greyhounds and the people at the very heart of our sport.
“Likewise, we will be shining a light on the families who contribute in so many ways – whether as spectators, owners, trainers or track staff. It is their hard work and dedication which ensures greyhound racing continues to be a popular British pastime.
“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in organising the week and we are very much looking forward to building on last year’s success and growing this unique event.”
