British bred Trapstyle Jet set a new Belle Vue 260m track record when landing the fastest semi final of the Bapp Group Of Companies Scurry Cup on Saturday.
Jean Liles runner-up took full advantage of an inside draw to beat great rival Roxholme Hat by a head in 14.78, ten spots inside Hat’s record. The other semi went to Swift Alexis in 15.08.
However the draw for the final posed completely new issues with Jet switching from one to five, Alexis moving in from five to two, and Hat set for the slot on the rails.
Mark Keightly, assistant trainer to Hat’s trainer Hayley said: “I have some big reservations about our draw. Hat was knocked over from six and we asked that his seeding might be switched from wide into rails. Really, I wanted a middle slot, but he moved off very badly in the semi final which was his for the taking in my opinion. I think he is the fastest sprinter in training, albeit he has to learn to be more consistent at the tracks. He could still win it, but backing him wouldn’t be on my mind after the draw.”
