The Track Supporters Club Munster Derby may only be an A1 stake these days but it has produced a good quality final at Clonmel on Sunday.
Scooby The Star has been the dog of the competition so far and will take some beating in the 525 yard decider. Frances O’Donnell’s dog clocked a fastest of the competition 28.42sec in the opening round before tasting defeat in the second round. However normal service was resumed in last week’s semi-finals when he beat Liscahane Royal by four and a half lengths in 28.58sec. The son of Derby winner Skywalker Puma and Oaks winner Skywalker Queen can soon be in control.
Knockbrogan King is bidding for a four-timer and is a major danger. John O’Sullivan’s runner is better drawn in the middle this week than in last week’s semi-finals when he checked wide at the start before winning in 28.73sec and did beat the selection in the second round. Kieran Lynch’s Gwan Slab, unlucky when bumped at the start last week, has to be considered after winning in the first two rounds in 28.70sec and 28.61sec.
