It is almost two months since Towcester ran their inaugural meeting and attached trainer Nick Savva reckons it is a huge addition to the racing scene.
He said: “It is just about as close to Sheffield as you are likely to get. The times are similar and so are the sectionals.
“While it is true that a lot of dogs leading front the front do well there, that is down to modern breeding. There is no other explanation as the dogs at the back have every chance.
“It is the most trouble free racing that you are likely to see. Comparisons are made with Australia, but their racing has a lot more bumping at the bends, just look at the distances between first and last.
“I have been so impressed with the management too, no expense is spared in getting everything right.
“Years ago, when I had dogs like Phantom Flash and Special Account, I would have chosen tracks with longer straights that Towcester, but where are they now. We no longer have that type of track.”
Savva is currently qualifying the latest group of Westmeads, a Sept ’13 bunch by Puppy Derby winner Westmead Logan out of Droopys Kinda. So far eight of the litter have graded on.
But Nick hasn’t abandoned his old home of Henlow where he is currently qualifying a young litter by Coolavanny Bert out of Westmead Sula, dam of Westmead Alexis and Westmead Chris.
