Joe’s Perry Barr Tips

*** 7.18 Perry Barr – Fabulous Dyna
** 8.11 Perry Barr – Naochra
*7.01 Perry Barr – Greenwell Ange

Plenty of clues this evening at Perry Barr ahead of next week’s opening rounds of the M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup and the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger. There are four trial stakes for the Birmingham Cup and three trial stakes for the St Leger.

The race of the night is St Leger Trial Stakes division one at 8.28 in what could be a Leger semi-final itself. Haka Carlo hasn’t been round here since October last year but I fancy him to land the spoils. He needs to be lively to avoid Coonough Crow in one and Hopiehopiehopie in three but if he gets a clear run this track and trip should suit Jason Heath’s charge with Dazl Rolex in trap six a big runner also.

Division one of the Birmingham Cup trial stakes at 8.44 is another cracking contest. Trap three Cunnigar Yousir heads back to Perry Barr after his Gold Cup fourth at Monmore seven days ago and he can dominate here from an early stage. He should clear Long Fellow and Slick Saba inside and if doing so should lead and win.

Other selections on the card include Naochra in the Birmingham Cup Trial Stakes division two at 8.11, Fabulous Dyna in the St Leger Trial Stakes division three at 7.18 and Greenwell Ange in the Birmingham Cup Trial Stakes division four at 7.01.

Time Juvenile Derby Final

Six of Ireland’s top pups line up at Shelbourne tonight.

Unbeaten in the three rounds of this competition, Owen McKenna’s Callaway Knegare heads the market. His 27.85 in the semis sets a clear standard with only one of his five rivals able to produce a sub 28.20 run so far.

That is Boylesports Blue for Paul Hennessy and it was three weeks before this competition started. He has not been any match for the favourite the last two weeks, however.

On the draw the biggest threat should be Liam Dowling’s Ballymac Briar who has the sectionals to match the favourite in the early strides. It will be interesting to see how long he can make a race of it.

The other three all look to have a tough task on what is in the book if it is a clean race but they are all good prospects in their own right.

4/7 Callaway Knegare 7/2 Ballymac Briar 4/1 Boylesports Blue 10/1 Tivoli Milo 14/1 Hello Diego 16/1 Infield Destiny

Other Saturday Opens

There is also open race action at Doncaster, Monmore and Oxford this evening.

Five opens close out the Doncaster card, concluding with a £500, 450m final at 8.52. Barry Denby has a strong hand with half of the field. Bellmore Cricket was the quickest qualifier a week ago, producing the fourth fastest time of 2024, a 27.39. He went two spots quicker a fortnight prior from the orange jacket that he sports tonight.

There are four opens at Monmore, including three heats of a 264m competition. Cree Jo Jo goes in heat two at 7.56 for Richie Taberner. He should qualify for next week’s final where he is likely to meet the Silver Salver winner Magical Bluebear who goes in heat three at 8.31 for William Russell.

Oxford also have four open races on the slate. Coppice Lottie is back over six bends tonight after making the final of the BGBF British Bred Oaks Final for Kevin Hutton. She beat the winner of that competition (Coppice Ella) in the heats when sporting the red jacket as she is tonight at 6.56.

Romford Friday Review

Some smart times on a flying Friday evening.

Davo You Go produced the fourth quickest time of the year over 400m for Nathan Hunt. A 23.65 off a 3.64 was the clear pick of the four bend action. It was a maiden that produced the fastest 575m as Getme Up Boy clocked 34.92 from behind. Carol Weatherall’s dog just ran down Nowitsmyturn for Richard Rees who had produced a flying 13.34 split.

Madabout Peck made the long journey down worthwhile for Tom Heilbron, adding a 23.71 success to his win last week, a hat-trick of victories after breaking the Crayford clock on August 18.

Maxine Locke had a pair of winners with Tullymurry Dylan showing himself to be the track’s top sprinter once more. He had to work hard for a 13.63 win but it was four weeks since he last ran at the London Road venue. That is six straight 225m wins at the track for Dylan. Evans doubled up on the night with Whitewood Lenny.

Other winners on the card were Droopys Maybe (35.29, Paul Young), Droopys Chuckles (24.00, Gemma Evans), Swift United (24.20, Tony Collett), Zoo Luru (23.72, Katie O’Flaherty), Yahoo Megan (24.29, Patrick Janssens) and Fabulous Sonique (35.04, Mark Wallis).
