Monmore step to glory

The Premier Greyhound Racing (otherwise known as the ‘Monmore’) Puppy Derby Final takes place at the Wolverhampton track this afternoon.

Some of the middle distance icons of recent years have contested it. Who remembers the 2009 final when Bandicoot Tipoki and Kinda Ready finished 1-2 with the pair going on to win the next two English Derby finals?

The standard has never dipped and a number of today’s sextet will no doubt have Towcester ambitions in June.

Today’s card features seven open races and Monmore Racing Manager Tony Williamson – fresh from his tipping triumphs last week – has very kindly offered to preview each race.

Fate of the Plate

The ARC Kent Plate also concludes this evening. It has been dominated by local royalty. Six Kings/Queens – born and reared 20 miles from the stadium –  were entered in the competition. Between them, they have won eight of the nine qualifiers and four have made the decider.

It is 16/1 bar the four though the KSS Syndicate’s resident kennel lad Rab McNair is too experienced a dog man to be counting any chickens  . .

Betting: 5/4 King Memphis, 11/4 King Capaldi, 5/1 Queen Joni, Queen Sharkira, 16/1 Droopys Reserve, 20/1 Whyayeman
