The highlight of the weekend was a graded race at NEWCASTLE – if you can call the £5,000 decider a ‘graded race’

The Wilf Husband Memorial was contested by the track’s leading open racers and resulted in a surprise win for Jimmy Fenwick’s Ginas Lad (Scolari Me Daddy-Sizzling Gina, Feb 14).

Having turned over an unlucky Droopys Country with a 28.58 semi final win, the Pinpoint Maiden Derby finalist went to traps at 4-1 and repeated the trick in a time of 28.60.

There was a strong Yorkshire raiding team in the supporting opens – each worth £500 – with Kinsley’s Jim Hayton picking up a 222-1 treble from just four runners. Viking Jimmy (Ballymac Vic-Starwood Bound, Jul 14) landed the sprint in 17.13.

His three kennelmates all covered the 480m between 28.83-28.91 though only two, Beaming Daisy (Kinloch Brae-Tallying Gale, Jun 15) and Lowgate Sirius (Windy Millar-Hawks Dutchess, Aug 14) were successful.

Lowgate Malfoy was beaten into third place by Droopys Five (Loughteen Blanco-Droopys Cyclone, Feb 14) in 28.65.

The Parker double were evens favourite Dropzone (Sh Avatar-Bonus, Jul 15) ain 28.81 and 7-4 shot Early Mist (Droopys Jet-Express Diva, May 15) with a 28.84 run in the bitches race.

The 290m sprint went to Daytime Flyer (Ocean Crash-Ballaghboy Cool, May 13) in 17.19 (FOY 16.94) and the 640m contest went to Patsys Diva (Kinloch Brae-Not For Catchin, Jun 14) in 41.07 (TR 40.45).

The night’s remaining opens went to Turnhouse Ace (Cashen Legend-Calzaghe Naomi, Jun 15) in 29.47, and Crooks Cruiser (Scolari Me Daddy-Martella, Aug 14) in 28.82.

Carol Weatherall had a night to remember at PERRY BARR on Saturday when sending out a quartet of runners and landing a 34-1 four-timer.

The pick of the crop was probably Coolavanny Rebel (Droopys Scolari-Coolavanny Angie, Jul 13) who made it three from four over course and distance with a 28.37 run (FOY 28.14).

Holdem Bernado (Kinloch Brae-Cornamaddy Tiny, May 13) completed a hat-trick with a narrow win over Cuba Libra in 40.35 (-15) for the ‘660’ (FOY 39.91). There was also a short head win over another Rosney runner when Inky Holdem (Kinloch Brae-Thelmas Delight, Jun 15) beat The Other Billy in 28.72. Puppy Calico Blackjack (Holdem Spy-Wontfallbehind, Aug 15) went one spot quicker.

Supporting the ‘Weatherall Show’ were Droopys Haiti (Central City-Droopys Twirl, Oct 13) with a 16.29 run for the 275m, with Thomas Golden (Droopys Scolari-Final Gold, Jun 14) going nine spots quicker for Geraldine Kovac.

At CRAYFORD, puppy Droopys Susan (Droopys Cain-Droopys Loner, Aug 15) made a successful six bend debut for Dean Childs.

The litter sister to Droopys Bonucci and Droopys Giorgio led early and then held off kennelmate Mustang Swift by half a length in 33.90 (+30) for the 540m.

The 380m open went to Julie Luckhurst’s Coley Wobbler (Droopys Scolari-Cunning Kate, Sep 14) in 23.65 (+10).

On the graded strength, Rahyvira Pearl (Ashford Castle-Rahyvira Smurf, Jun 14), a litter sister to Peterborough sprint record holder Rahyvira Castle, land the graded M1 over 874m.
