Trevor Jameson has his eyes on two of the top prizes at the forthcoming Newcastle Festival after trials at the track writes John Forbes.
Satin Mark, runner-up to Minglers Thunder in the Steel City Cup at the beginning of the month, has not raced since but showed that he is coming back to the boil at the right time for the All England Cup as he produced a 28.79 over the 480 metres, 17 spots faster than his effort eh previous week, while litter-sister Satin Moss pleased with a 28.87 and will be entered for the Angel of the North Oaks.
The Pelaw Grange trainer said: “Satin Mark hasn’t raced since the Steel City Cup final and, apart from the trials he hasn’t been off the lead as I have given him a bit of a break and the trials show that he’s coming along smashing now.”
Best clock of the session was produced by Viking Jack, who flew round in 28.39, second fastest of the year, while Barrie Draper’s Glenpadden Rock clocked 28.82.
Calzaghe George made a successful return to the track for Ted Soppitt’s kennel at Sunderland on Friday.
On the sidelines for a month, there were no signs of any cobwebs as the son of Cashen Legend took control in the initial stages and powered his way to a four and a half-length victory in a good 27.01 for the 450 metres on a track running ten spots slow.
