Carl Perry admits that the withdrawal of Geelo Sapphire from the final of the George Carrigill Memorial at Sheffield on Tuesday, has done his other runner Geelo Monty no favours.
He said: “As far as Sapphire is concerned, it is a small tear which should heal completely and she will be off a couple of weeks or so. We knew she wasn’t herself and the physio Darryl Hopper confirmed the worst.
“We still have Monty in it, though he has it all to do against Droopys Live who is a real class act. We thought Sapphire could lead her which would have given Monty a better chance. But Live wasn’t coming back when they met over the four bends, so we will need everything in our favour to beat her over 660.”
