A surplus of graded runners means Central Park will not be staging any flat opens once again this coming Sunday.
Although the track have opens advertised in the GBGB Calender, published mid-December, the only two non-graded events due to be staged will be two Springbok trialstakes.
Racing manager Dan Homewood said: “We had Karen Dodington and Dave Dodds arrive from Poole, Matt Dartnall from Towcester, Terry Atkins from Swindon and Jodie Payne taking over from Dave Jeans all in the last few months. Add in some locally bred pups and our racing strength has increased by around 130 dogs. SIS wanted a bigger strength and we have delivered.
“If I run opens on Sunday, it means there will be 70 local dogs without a run this week. That isn’t fair to them so no flat opens I am afraid. We are not the only track with this problem. I gather Hove are in a similar position.”
With Romford only staging 10 opens on Friday, including the three Essex Vase semi finals, there are currently very slim pickings for open race trainers.
