Racing manager Paul Mellor is waiting to hear whether he will be able to extend the 36-entry RPGTV Henlow Derby into a 48 runner event.
As suggested earlier in the week, Mellor was confident that the event would be heavily oversubscribed and he applied to the GBGB Open Race Planning Committee for the switch a full day before the entry closed.
He said: “Apparently they have to convene a call with all five members of the committee but so far I have heard nothing. We had 60 entries and it would a crying shame to disappoint so many people. We aren’t clashing with any other event so we have our fingers crossed. At this stage I can’t even grade Saturday’s card because I don’t know how many local runners I will need.”
