A thirteen-race card at Romford this evening with all bar the opener of the open race variety.
Paul Young’s Jeopardy Birdie is yet to win in 7 starts over the 575m trip but her performance last time out when leading everywhere bar the line showed that her turn shouldn’t be far away.  A reproduction of that effort should be more than good enough to see her take this S2 at 609pm.
It’s open racing all the way now with the Foster A Greyhound Maidens at 628pm.  A competitive race where most have a chance and stakes should be kept small.  Irene Barnard’s Blackboy Lucky got it all wrong at the start last week and then felt his way around the track on what was his first sighter of the circuit.  This maiden is a good bit easier and with a break this time around should finish much closer to the action.
The Romford Greyhound Owners Association Maiden Stayers at 643pm can go to Kevin Boon’s Farneys Chloe.  Just a May 2020 pup with 6 races on her card she’s already crying out for this kind of trip and will undoubtedly stay further in time.  Coming from miles off the pace to win a 500m maiden at Towcester a couple of runs ago this is a winnable opportunity stepping up in trip for the first time.
The Rehome A Retired Greyhound Puppies at 658pm and Paul Young’s Aero Squeak can gain compensation for a desperate defeat here last week.  Walking out of traps and then encountering trouble at the first ‘Squeak’ showed pace way beyond this kind of class from the second bend home.  Going down by just 1 1/2 lengths in the end it was a very eye-catching run and anything like a start here should soon see him kicking clear for home.
Like Us On Facebook @Romforddogs Maidens at 718pm can go the way of Heather Dimmock’s Milton Rio.  This dog has a real nice touch of early pace and this short four bend trip should be right up his street.  He’s capable of a fair bit better than the 2447 he recorded in his look around trial recently and can demonstrate that if getting loose early.
The Yvonne Gaskin Memorial Race at 736pm.  Nathan Hunt’s progressive Zoomey Saoirse has 6 wins from 13 career starts with 4 of them coming at open class level around here.  This isn’t an easy ask but her usual break should see her make the bend in front and it would be a tough ask from that point to pick her up.  On that basis ‘Saoirse’ is selected to make it 7 from 14.
The Arthur Trevallion Memorial Stakes at 756pm can go to Maxine Locke’s Bonville Jack.  He doesn’t really want to be this far off the rail but the move to trap 3 could see him breaking a little better and if so he can then use that middle draw to enable him to drive the bend with a little more fluency.  All over if ‘Jack’ gets around the bend in front and his supporters on the terraces can shout him all the way home.
A Coral Essex Vase Trial Stakes at 817pm.  Gemma Evans Droopys Addition should win this comfortably but at odds on and with this being his first competitive run for a month it’s a race to watch rather than get involved in.
The EPV Stakes over 575m at 838pm and an intriguing race.  Dapper Rodney for Nathan Hunt is obviously of interest stepping up in distance but at odds on and with another interesting type in Farneys Holly drawn inside him and also stepping up in trip there is reason to look a little deeper into the race.  Heather Dimmock’s Milton Mia lacks a look around but she does have a nice touch of early pace and gives the impression that this course and distance should play to her strengths ideally.  The inside pair could easily clash in the early stages and that being the case they may well find that ‘Mia’ is away and gone at what should be a fair price.
The Romford Friday Night 500 Maidens Final can go to David Mullins bang in form Mallogs Stormzy.  Drawn a little wider than ideal here but the make up of the rest of the field should ensure that if he is quickly away he should be able to make the bend and once again turn in front.  Paul Young’s Rough Rubi wasn’t beaten far by the selection last week and though she too isn’t ideally drawn right against the rail she may once again turn on the shoulder of the selection and is worth including in forecast bets.
Retired Greyhounds Love Sofas Winner Of One Standard at 912pm.  After taking a tumble when well fancied for a top-grade Towcester sprint last time out Heather Dimmock appears to have found a good opportunity to get some confidence restored to Bentley Crew a dog who reached veteran status just a few weeks ago.  Well capable of leading round here it would be very disappointing if he didn’t add to his sole previous open success which came in a Hove maiden sprint back in December 2019.
The Like And Follow Us On Twitter @romforddogs Standard and a race by Romford standards which is seriously lacking in early pace.  Nathan Hunt’s Donishall Brae is inconsistent at the start but does have a break in him.  He wouldn’t need anything too flashy to be able to claim the lead here and make all if doing so.
Ashwells Greyhound Retirement Home Stayers at 942pm can go to Kevin Boon’s hugely consistent Bettys Book.  ‘Bettys’ can dominate this race from the outset.  On what looks a competitive card ‘Bettys’ looks one of the best bets of the night and can send the punters home happy.
