“The vision is to have the re-opening night as the second only to the Derby Final as a spectacle” said Ian Smyth unveiling plans for the opening of the new Romford main grandstand on Friday September 6.
In addition to the previously revealed decision to stage the final of the Coral sponsored Champion Stakes, plus the semi finals of the TV Trophy, the 16-all-open-race card will be significantly enhanced.
Racing manager Mark Arkell said: “We are planning seven one-off invitation races. They are still to be finalised but will probably include puppy, and senior race. They will all be worth £750 to the winner with £75 for others. Plus there should be two £500 finals and heats of a maiden.”
Smyth added: “We are also very conscious of the support that our owners and trainers have given us throughout a long and difficult period so the following night, Saturday 7th, we are planning to put on a special meeting for the local graders with significantly enhanced prize money.”
