Southoe Rock clocked the fastest time in the heats of the Lawrence Brother Inter Track Trophy over 435 metres at Peterborough last night.

Richard Devenish’s runner, who was part of the track’s successful BAGS Intertrack team, forced his way to the front after a bumpy passage to the turn and went on to beat Glenadda Express by two lengths in 26.11sec (+10).

Devenish had high hopes of completing a double in the event when litter brother Southoe Steel went into an early lead in heat three.

However Phil Ward’s runner came with a strong run to lead off the last turn and score by almost four lengths in 26.18sec.

Spring Weather was a 10-1 shock winner of the opening qualifier. Sharon Sabberton’s runner came through strongly at the third turn to eventually beat David Pruhs’ Bonnan Dubh by almost three lengths in 26.22sec.

The final is next Wednesday.
