After a forced one week hiatus, your favourite column is back. With the racing back in Essex the Friday night open card resumes. Although not containing the originally scheduled Essex Vase semi finals, open races are taking place nonetheless. With a lot of local greyhounds on show tonight yours truly has managed to find out more about one particular entrant.
Said And Done, trained by Crayford’s Barry O’Sullivan is making her Romford and open race debut at the same time tonight. In heat two of the Romford Friday night 500 maiden stayers at 8.21pm, the August ’15 whelp is not making her six bend debut though. On these shores the daughter of Sparta Maestro and Stride On Baby has had all her ten races at home track Crayford with eight of those being over the six bend trip of 540 metres. Over six bends she is in fine fettle winning three of her last four races in S3 and S2 graded races repetitively. She can clearly handle Crayford and has early pace which bodes well going into tonight’s race.
Trainer Barry O’Sullivan on Said And Done said: “Most of the Lady Bryden syndicate live or work the Romford side of the river and have wanted to run Said And Done at Romford for a while.
“I like her drawn in six, she has been graded in five lately but I like her in stripes. She should be able to handle herself at Romford as she handles herself well at Crayford. I’m quite confident she will handle Romford first time up.
“I like her, she is a nice little bitch. She is quite strong and if she gets in front will stay the 575 metres. If she does get in front she will be a handful to get past. She has hit a purple patch and is running really well at the moment.”
Paddy Power make Said And Done a 6/1 shot and that must be considered. She is running well, stays, has early pace and should take to Romford after experience at home track Crayford, which has similarities.
Regular readers of this column will know it pays to follow the greyhounds covered in this column not just at Romford but elsewhere too. In the last couple of your favourite column, Yarmouth trainer Nicky Skaggs had three greyhounds covered. After Romford they went back to Yarmouth and in their first outings since Romford, two duly obliged. First up was Sonnies Isla who won at 5/1 over 462 metres winning an A1 for the first time. Second up and only two days later, Romford Friday night 500 maidens finalist Woodcocks Susie won an A1 over 462 metres at an Sp return of 5/1.
