It’s the last Friday before Halloween. With help from your favourite read there is nothing scary about tonight’s all open card at Romford. With fifteen races on from 6.27pm there is plenty to enjoy. As ever there are several greyhounds making their Romford or six bend debuts. In some cases both. As ever yours truly has endeavoured to find out more about some of them including two from three of the maiden stayers heats over 575 metres.
Dudleys Impact for local handler Paul Young is making her race debut on these shores in a sprint race at 6.27pm over 225 metres. The daughter of Atitboy and Jades Impact although running over here for the first time is no novice.
The November ’17 whelp has had eighteen races on Ireland winning four of them. Those races that she won were over 306 and 366 metres at Drumbo Park and Dundalk which shows she has enough early to win short races. She has had three trials at Romford and the last one was over C&D.
In that last trial she clocked a good calculated time of 13.85. Her split times of 3.61 and 3.67 in her other trials over 400 metres show she has good early and could go well tonight.
Paul on her said: “She is a nice bitch. In her sprint trial she went well enough so thought we would put her in a sprint race on a Friday. She will get 400 metres as well and looks a lovely Romford dog. Taylor made for the track. She has nice early and her split times over 400 metres were very good. Trap four for her should be okay.
“The owner owned the sire Atitboy and he was a good little dog in Ireland for him. Bubbly Dudley is out of him and he looks a good prospect for us.”
On all of his runners tonight Paul said: “Our Lucky Fool is going the right way and has a chance. Bubbly Cain in the final is a lovely dog and is definitely one for next year.”
Skybet make Dudleys Impact a 6/1 shot to win first time on these shores. Our Lucky Fool in a stayers race over 575 metres at 6.44pm is 7/4 with Skybet to win his race. Bubbly Cain who was covered last week is top price 5/4 with Skybet to win the final of the Friday night 500 maidens at 9.08pm over 400 metres.
Cloncunny Loch for Yarmouth trainer Paul Burr is racing away from his home track for the very first time and is also making his six bend debut as well. After 35 races at Yarmouth, all over 462 metres the son of Kinloch Brae and Chaotic Lynda is being stepped up to 575 metres. In the first heat of the Romford Friday night 500 maiden stayers at 8.06pm he will be looking to shed his maiden tag at the first time of asking. The December ’16 whelp is in fine fettle at the moment at Yarmouth winning three of his last seven races. He appears to need further and goes into tonight’s race in good form.
Paul on him said: “The way he is staying 462 metres he should get the 575 metres trip. When he won his last race in an A2 he led all the way to the pick up. He was in the same race as our Vigorous Butch who has run over 642 metres at Central Park and he didn’t get near him to the pick up. He was bought as a stayer and should get it. I’m fairly sure he will get it. He has a bit of early as well but I’m not sure he will get any further. If he gets in front he will be difficult to peg back.
“I always wanted to step him up and with the maiden competition on it’s a good opportunity to do so. Hopefully he pops out and makes a good show of himself.
“Trap five for him is okay. He should get a nice clear run from there and then we can see how he goes.”
Skybet make him an 8/1 poke to win over six bends at the first time of asking.
In heat three of the maiden stayers competition at 8.38pm, Go Jimmy Go is making his six bend debut for local handler David Mullins. The son of Kinloch Brae and Tiermana Buss has won over 400 metres in A3 and A2 graded company and appears to want further. The January ’18 whelp is still only a puppy and is progressing nicely. Longer trips is what he might need. He had a recent spin over 480 metres at Central Park but found a lot of trouble at the first and second bend. He has a good trap draw in one, has track knowledge and may not be a maiden stayer for very long.
David on him said: “Does he stay? Yes. I think he does anyway. I will be disappointed if he doesn’t stay. Will he win I don’t know but I think he will stay.
“We ran him at Central Park over 480 metres as an intermediate trip. He found trouble but did see out the trip well.
“He is still only a pup and although I think he stays I don’t intend to keep him over six bends all the time. I will run him over four bends as well to keep him sharp. Trap one for him is a good draw.”
Go Jimmy Go is 13/2 with Skybet to win over six bends at the first time of asking.
Monmore trainer Patrick Curtin knows what it takes to win around Romford and tonight tries his Sallys Legacy at Romford for the first time. In a maiden race over 400 metres at 9.26pm the daughter of Scolari Me Daddy and Royal Mission will be looking to win at the first time of asking. The November ’16 whelp races away from Monmore for the first time tonight after thirty nine races, winning eight. She has early pace and the drop from 480 metres to 400 metres tonight could be ideal for her.
Patrick on her said: “She’s a nice bitch with nice early pace. She rarely misses the traps. She is a very consistent trapper at Monmore and rarely misses the break. She is a good honest bitch and wins her fair share.
“She is a good tracker and holds the rails well. With her I didn’t feel the need to trial her first as she is a natural tracker. She traps 9/10 times at Monmore.
“She could be suited to Romford. You can only find out by trying. She has early pace and led a few A1s at Monmore but not got home.
“She has trap two on Friday and I don’t see a problem with that. Trap two will do nicely. We will see how she copes with the crowd and traps.”
Coral make her 13/2 to win at Romford tonight at the first time of asking.
I don’t know where to start with this. Regular readers of this column may of had a field day last week if following the advice of those covered. Bubbly Cain was the main focus for Steve Fluin. He said of the nine runners they had on the card Cain and Bubbly Bonita were their best chances. Bubbly Cain when making his race debut won at an SP of 7/4 in a good calculated time of 24.08. Bonita however finished second by only half a length.
On to Phil Simmonds. He stepped up Illewin Attempt over six bends and said he would get the trip. He did indeed and duly obliged at an SP return of 6/1. For his best of night he gave up Walk On Thomas saying “….We are expecting a big run from him tonight.” He wasn’t wrong as he won the Romford Friday night 500 standard final at 4/1 winning by 3 3/4 lengths.
From five greyhounds mentioned last week three won at SP returns of 7/4, 6/1 and 4/1. It pays to follow this column.
