Get the barbeques out early and finished in time for Romford’s Friday night card. The Essex track have put on thirteen races with eleven of them of the open variety. As ever there are several greyhounds making their Romford race debuts and yours truly has endeavoured to find out more about two of them.

Sonic Vegas is not only making her Romford race debut but is racing for Towcester trainer John Mullins for the first time as well in a winner of one standard at 6.43pm over 400 metres. The September ’19 whelp was with Newcastle trainer Stuart Tighe but is now based ‘dahn sarf’.

With Stuart she won over 480 metres at Newcastle in A3, A2, handicap and open affairs. Connections will be hoping the daughter of King Elvis and Mill Patricia takes after her dad and takes to Romford just like he did. King Elvis at Romford finished second in the 2017 Romford puppy cup final. In a recent trial over C&D she clocked a calculated time of 24.93 after finding trouble early on. She will be expected to improve on that.

John on him said: “It is her race debut for me. She trialled at Romford with me. She is in good form and was contesting in A1’s and A2’s at Newcastle. She has come down here as the owners think a tighter four bend trip like Romford will suit her.

“We are still learning a lot about her, but Romford could be ideal. We will see how she goes.”

Corals make her 4/1 to win in Essex at the first time of asking.

Sonic Emjay is almost a carbon copy of Sonic Vegas in the way he is making his Romford and race debut for John Mullins. While with Stuart Tighe the September ’19 whelp predominately ran in sprint races winning one at Sunderland over 261 metres.

Having the early pace to win over two bends bodes well going over 400 metres at Romford tonight at 7.56pm in a winner of one open races. Like his sibling Sonic Vegas, connections are hoping he takes to Romford like the ‘old man’ King Elvis did and do him proud. In a recent spin over C&D he clocked a calculated time of 24.51 and like his kennel mate will be expected to improve.

John on him said: “It’s the same story with him. With Stuart he came second to our Signet Goofy twice at Nottingham over 305 metres so we know he can run.

“He doesn’t trap brilliantly but Romford could suit him well. He did a decent trial and will hopefully improve on that.

“We are still learning about both of them and Friday is a big learning curve for us about them.”

On his other runners John said: “Spicuzza is still settling in and will see how he goes. He is a short runner and Romford should suit him.

“Chelms Switch is a different dog if he leads and hopefully, he will. Icaals Rocco, we know all about him but is a huge shout to win his race. He loves Romford.”

Ladbrokes are offering evens for him to win at Romford first time up in race conditions. Icaals Rocco in the 7.36pm is 9/4 with Corals to take the spoils.

Regular readers of the ‘Round Up’ may have had a good start to Saturday at Crayford last week if reading the Entain Track Championship piece. Luck Blue Box and Newinn Tik Tok rolled in for trainers Jim Reynolds and Patrick Browne at SP’s of 11/8 and 4/9. Jim also put up Knockard Rory as a good chance and the early paced Crayford raider duly obliged at 2/1. Romford trainer Michelle Brown put up Jennifer Anne as one to look out her and she won at 8/1. That win however wasn’t enough to take the spoils for Romford with Hove coming out on top overall.

It pays to follow this column.
