Brookside Richie is to join trainer Jimmy Fenwick following a hugely successful early part of his racing career with David Mullins.
Jimmy said: “Owner Vickers is based in Stockton and used to have dogs with Yvonne (Bell). I know he used to love being involved in the kennel and going over on a Sunday morning for a coffee and a bit of banter with the other owners. But he is 78 now and not in great health so traveling down to Essex on a regular basis wasn’t really possible.
“I had a bitch, Jeddies Jess, for Richie in the past and he asked me if I would take the dog and another young puppy he owns, Brookside Bale. I said I would, but he would need to sort it with David first. He has done that and we are due to pick them up tomorrow night at Monmore.
“David and I don’t have any problems, we have been friends for a long time back to the time when he was training at Sunderland and then went he took Slick Mick for me and won the Peterborough Puppy Derby with him. I imagine he will be disappointed to lose the dog, but it was simply about location. There is no way he would have been going to another trainer in the south.”
A winner of the Juvenile Classic and the Romford Puppy Cup, Brookside Richie went lame in the semi finals of the Blue Riband in January. He is currently a 40-1 chance for the Star Sports/TRC Events & Leisure English Derby.
Jimmy said: “He has a flexor tendon injury which we will need to assess before we can make any plans with him. The Juvenile would be on the agenda if he was able to take part but we’ll just see how things map out.”
