1992 Mildenhall Stadium, which ceased trading as a greyhound track the previous month, is to re-open with a new promoter, the Irish businessman Denis Diffley.

2007 Former trainer Graham Calvert jnr announces that he is to sue William Hill after his gambling habits spiralled out of control. Meanwhile Calvert is summoned to appear before the NGRC in relation to the performances of two of his runners.

2010 The GBGB announce that they are shifting drug sampling from HFL to LGC Ltd with an annual cost saving of around £150,000.

1968 The great Cranog Bet loses her place in the record books to another fantastic female when Shady Parachute lowers the Harringay 525 clock to 28.89 from 29.02. A week later Bet also loses her Clapton 400 record which is taken by Foyle Tonic in the heats of the Scurry Gold Cup.

2013 A management team headed by Clive Feltham, sign management deals with NAMA/Galliard Homes to run the four tracks. The leases for Hall Green, Belle Vue and Perry Barr are believed to be for 15 years with a five year deal for Wimbledon.

1993 GRA owned Wembley and Portsmouth, plus Maurice Buckland’s Perry Barr are among the tracks who have applied for a first BAGS contract. Two year earlier, all GRA applications were rejected.

1958 8-13 favourite Beware Champ wins the Scurry Gold Cup, and according to tradition, his name, and a congratulatory message is ‘fired’ during a post race fireworks display. In addition to the memento trophy and jacket, all six finalists take home their specially inscribed racing jackets.

1968 28 year old Charles Chandler is the new assistant managing director of GRA trust. The MD is 33 year old John Sutton. Also appointed to the board is Wimbledon’s John Cearns. Sutton, who brought Catford into the GRA portfolio is a director of photo finish and chromotagraphy suppliers Instaprint. Both Instaprint and Cearns building contractors hold contracts with GRA. In their most recent set of accounts, GRA register significant losses in their purchase of a company operating golf centres. These have been shored up by the £575,000 sale (index linked to £8.7m) of the company’s head office in Berkeley Square.

1993 The lightweight (63lb 28.5kg) double Irish Derby finalist Ardfert Sean dies aged seven. Among the progeny produced in a short stud career were Irish Derby winner Ardfert Mick, Scottish Derby winner Droopys Sandy, Ayr Flyer, Heres Seanie, Coolmona Road, and Redwood Girl.

1947 Transvaal, the only province in South Africa which allows greyhound racing decided to ban it following pressure from church groups.
