2012 Four years after the closure of Walthamstow, the Racing Post have still not given up hope by reporting “The Save Our Stow campaign was yesterday celebrating another battle won in its bid to reclaim Walthamstow Stadium for greyhound racing. The Information Commissioners Office has ruled in favour of SOS receiving the viability assessment submitted by L&Q, the site’s owners. In laymen’s terms, claims SOS, this will help SOS prove that L&Q are wasting taxpayers money. This is key while Mayor Boris Johnson weighs up a planning application.”
1981 Noble Legion (Faction Fighter-Noble Lynn, May 79) wins the Irish National Sprint in 23.78 for the 435 yards. The time is two spots slower than his older full brother Noble Brigg clocked when landing the 1979 decider.
1991 John Coleman’s Satharn Lady clocks the second fastest time in the Irish Derby first round, some 22 hours after winning the Tennents Ten Thousand at Sheffield.
1950 Coventry announces dates for the forthcoming Eclipse Stakes. They are looking for 18 runners with an entry fee of £10 (equivalent to £357 today). The winner will collect £500 (£17,850) and trophy valued at £75 (£2,677). Meanwhile Walthamstow announce that their contribution to the Grand Prix prize money pot will be £954 (£34K).
2009 Former Newcastle racing manager Peter Douglas and trainer Barry Clements were both warned off and fined £5,000 following a Sunday newspaper article. Douglas had already sacked by the stadium for fraudulent prize money claims though the GBGB found no evidence to back up the newspaper claim of an attempt to run a ringer in a race at the track.

The Ron Hookway trained black goes on to land the final of the Steel City Cup, from brother Forward Flash, on the same night that another brother, Spectre II, wins the Midland St.Leger.
2006 Fear No One is retired from racing after being eliminated from the Yarmouth Derby. A year earlier, the son of Toms The Best had been an impressive winner of the same event having previously won the Peterborough Derby, Puppy Derby and Fengate Collar
1946 Northern open racer Ration Docket fails to reach his reserve and is unsold at Sheffield sales. The top bid was 1,000gns, roughly £46K at current rates.
1976 Wicklow owner trainer Michael Collins is barred for life by the Irish stewards following the performance of his runner Thingame in the second round of the McAlinden Gold Cup in June. The favourite had stumbled after leaving traps and finished well beaten. Following the race, punters invaded the track and forced the abandonment of the meeting. Carter was also found guilty of abusing and assaulting track officials on separate occasions.
