I cannot pretend to understand the process of the selection the representatives of interested groups for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain. However, the with recent dealings over the owners’ representative what has become clear is that the owners are not being given the opportunity to choose their own rep. If the GBGB put the various candidates through a selection process then whoever reaches the shortlist can never be considered as a legitimate representative. Whoever is selected from a GBGB selected shortlist is a person that the GBGB think will fit their remit rather than the person that the owners may prefer.
The GBGB is being subject to considerable criticism and much of it appears to be justified. The selection of an owners’ representative could have been the first step in demonstrating that they are moving towards more transparency and the Board has missed this opportunity. Instead they are maintaining the image of opacity and lack of accountability. This is not doing our great sport any good at all.
