It is not very often that Shawfield racing manager Daniel Rankin can be accused of sitting on the fence – but when it comes to Saturday’s RPGTV Scottish Derby Final, he is decidedly indecisive.
He said: “There was only three spots between the heat winners and the way the draw has worked out, you could make a case for any of them.”
T1 COOLAVANNY JAP
“I am not convinced that he wasn’t trap one. He ran middle in the semi and didn’t even rail at the bend. There must be a doubt whether he will trap as well on the inside.”

“He was the quickest winner and is unbeaten going into the final. The dog has done nothing wrong but I wonder whether he will get the rail from the one who has similar sectionals.

“This is the first time that he has had the middle draw after getting trap one twice and I have a suspicion that it will suit him better. I think he looks value in the betting and could be the one to beat.”

“He ran brilliantly to qualify after walking away and then coming through his field. He is a better dog than his form has shown to date.”

“She will probably be the outsider an I still haven’t seen her bully dogs likes she does when she is running against bitches. She followed Swift Hoffman around when there was trouble in the semi and should go up straight from five.”

“He finally did his run in the semi. He did his run in the semi but I don’t know whether he performs as well if he doesn’t lead. If he traps though, he must have a chance.”
