Six spots separated the three fastest heats, with a similar margin between the three slowest qualifiers from Saturday night’s RPGTV Steel City Cup heats.

Fastest on the night was Kevin Hutton’s Headford Ranger with a 28.85 run. Kevin Hutton’s big striding black and white dog is back over four bends after mixed results over six.

The dog who ran third in the recent Racing Post Juvenile having run a length to Ice On Fire in the Puppy Classic, has an incredible 39.47 (calc) for Central Park’s 642 metres but has one major Achiles Heel.

Kevin said: “Over six bends he violently checks up at the pick up every time he runs. I suspect it might go back to his schooling days. The worst occasion was at Nottingham though you are nervous every time he runs. On that night at Central Park, he got on the bunny in a low grade maiden and was able to get away with it.

“Clearly we would like to get him back over six bends, but we may have to give him a series of trials beforehand and hope we can get it out of his head. As far as last night was concerned, I thought it was an excellent performance but it came as no surprise. He barely got a mention in the Juvenile but I thought he ran a great race.”
