Razldazl Raidio (Razldazl Rioga-Razldazl Marilyn, Apr 14) set his second consecutive track record in the William Hill Springbok heats – though this one counted.
Ricky Holloway’s novice, who had dipped below the Crayford 380mH best in a trial showed his maturity as a hurdler with a fluent exhibition of jumping and a 28.89 run over the Wimbledon 480mH course. The 10 length win over Paradiso Alberto (and El Pedro – sh) was seven stops inside the five year benchmark set by Dolores Ruth’s Toomaline Jack.
Ballymac Loch (Kinloch Brae-Mashed Potatoes, Jun 12) would appear to be Raidio’s biggest danger in the event and was simply flawless with a front running display. Jason Heath’s brindle beat Uncle Rooney by nine in 29.18.
Next quickest was the black jacketed Kakantu (Ace Hi Rumble-Coolavanny Minor, Dec 12) who challenged early leader King Jake off the second bend and then held off the slow breaking Brinkleysdominic (T6) who would surely have finished closer without his characteristic antics at the traps and a sideways jump at the last. The winner clocked 29.26, and distance, a nod under four lengths.
Ballymac Manix (Ballymac Vic-Moyar Kite, May 13) was another with realistic chances of taking title after his 29.30 victory. Drawn five, the 13-8 chance probably didn’t need the three inside him to ruin each others chances – but they did anyway – and he was never headed for a near four length win over Bigwood Max (T1) and Gingers Dream (T4)
Griffin Park (Droopys Scolari-Sues Music, Jun 13) contested a poor four runner heat that resembled a trial. The winner could do no more than win it though – which he did by nine lengths in 30.01.
The second heat was probably the most entertaining of the evening and everything that Springbok punters either love or hate. In a race where you could have played ‘spot the winner’ for the first 460 metres, Bernie Doyle’s Williejump (Droopys Scolari-Kilara Alice, Aug 12) got home by a short head from Kyletawun Boy and Aero Frenzy in 30.31 – some 18 lengths slower than the Razldazl Raidio.
